We’re Barbara and Ula—architects-turned-quilters, the team behind the blog Designed to Quilt and creators of the quilting calculator app Quilt Geek, now trusted by over 18,000 quilters.
But it wasn’t always like this. What started as a love for fabrics, patterns, and geometric designs quickly led us into a common roadblock: quilt math. So we did what designers do—we started building systems. To make quilt math approachable, we created cheat sheets, step-by-step methods, and tools for ourselves—and when we shared them with other quilters, they immediately saw the value and loved the approach. That experience inspired us to build Quilt Geek, a modern app with 20+ calculators and charts designed to take the stress out of quilt math.
Through our blog and speaking events like the Quilted Summit, we teach practical systems and provide tools that help quilters reduce stress, gain confidence, and enjoy every project from start to finish.
